Trish's Kids

I ran into NYC yesterday to pick up a 9ft backdrop for indoor sessions. Since I had to hoist the beast up anyway, I called my friend Trish and told her to get her kids over so I could take their pictures. Her son is my son's best friend, so it was like shooting my own kid. Her daughter was the cutest and just sat so nicely for me. I hope the three others I am taking pictures of this week make it as easy as she did!

Anna and I took a long walk at the Celery Farm in Allendale this morning. It was the first warm morning in a long time and I took the opportunity to scope out the Farm for pictures. When all the foliage returns, it will be a great place to take pictures of families. Anna was excited to be out and free to walk. Although the nearness of the water worried me a couple of times, it was a nice hour long walk. An added bonus is that she fell asleep during the 10 minute ride home and has been out for an hour and a half! Just enough time for editing and blogging!

I have a new favorite toy that is going to the top of my wish list for mother's day. My friend Joe lent me his Lensbaby to "try before I buy" and is that thing fun. First, it is hard core. The apertures are set with disks in the lens itself and there is no metering to be had at all. Totally manual in every sense of the word. In a nutshell, it has a bendable barrel that is the lens barrel and you squish it around to "bend" the light going into the camera. The net result is a small focal point and the rest of the image has a very impressionistic look to it.

Of course, my Peter is always game ... I think it came out kind of cool.

Jill's Son

I was lucky to meet this little guy yesterday. He was cute as a button, ready for anything and totally patient with me - the newbie. Jill was also great help. I have discovered I don't love studio shooting. I love outdoors, natural light, natural settings, but due to the fact I live in the northeast, it's not possible to shoot outside all the time.

Thanks to Jill and Tristan and I hope they come by to take more pictures soon!
